Setanta on the Brink - means more guys laid off in Football? Whilst we have our little bits of fun a bit of leg pulling lets give a thought to those in football who will undoubtedly lose their livelyhood as a result of Setanta going down...only yesterday I read on the BBC SPORT FOOTBALL WEB SITE that Celtic are doing away with their under 19s .(no not a dig -serious point) and lots of evidence in the press of teams cutting down on squad numbers. Blackburn Chief Executive announced today that its Blackburns intention to cut their squad severly. Sorry days indeed. Martin your right I like the UFC and of course they cover lots of other sports Munnthehun ; Err Lawell...no! MUNNTHEHUN Penny wise Pound Foolish ...£2mill worth - sorry! Chas.s Maw ; c,mon ower tae ma place ure ma kinda wuman lol
Why dont they show sport (football, cricket etc) on British TV? when i was a kid football matches would be shown in full for free on BBC or ITV EVERY SATURDAY during the football season. Also, during the summer every saturday and sunday there would be live coverage of cricket. When ever there was a test match with England - it would be covered live on BBC and anyone who paid their licence could watch it for free. What has happened? Now Only the odd football game is shown live. There is no cricket on free tv at all. Why is this? Why do people have to buy sky tv or cable to watch sports? Why did people allow this to happen?
BBC!! Bull, Boring, Cheating the public!!! Any other female sick to death of paying TV licence!? I'm so angry about paying for a licence, BY LAW, for rubbish BBC TV. Football Snooker Sport, hour after hour, the men may not complain so much but I can't be the only one who enjoys quality programmes with some thought put in to it. At one time the BBC was the two best quality channels to watch, not any more. Where is all the money going??? someones back pocket! Because it certainly is not going into making me want to watch the inane repeats ( cost zero ) Great of the BBC, they have a way of printing millions of pounds for nothing, with the full backing of the government. What a great job Only2days2go# your answer does not say where the millions we give the government go? I believe all other channels rely on advertising for funding, and a better job they do for general entertainment. If we are paying just for the connection, then it should be a free market, instead of them having the monopoly, lets have some competition. That usually shakes things up By the way its more polite to keep your biased attitute to yourself eg ( You People) if you have a problem with " people" try looking at people, not down, at them. Thank you for trying, im sure you did your best

Should Chelski be folded by FIFA and no longer exist as a football club? these are just some of the reasons why i think it should be considered - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/5238558.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/chelsea/5035604.stm http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=464751 http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/european_football/article2485878.ece http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2005/06/05/sfntot05.xml http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390000-2006460595,00.html
How can I listen to the World Cup on the Internet? Hi, I am English and living in Italy. I would like to know how I can listen to the BBC web site for the games. At the moment all I can get is a message saying that for contractual reasons they can't broadcast it outside of Britain. The website is http://www.bbc.co.uk/fivelive/sport/football/worldcup/2006/guide/ Yes the speakers are connected or how could I hear the message saying that you can't hear it outside Britain!!! Yes I have TV but here in Italy they only show the Italian games!!! As for the betandwin website, I can't access it as the Italian Government has blocked all access to betting sites on the internet!!
bbc sports personality???????????? Who will win the bbc`s sports personality of the year this year???????after all its supposed to be national and not just the english!and scince their football, rugby and cricket teams have yet again had a crap year, who will they give it to?i bet its not a scot, irish or a welsh hero!joe calzaghe for me!
How do I Listen to BBC Radio 5 Live Match Commentaries On-line outside the UK? I live in Ireland and when I log-on to the BBC's sports pages and try to listen to live football commentaries on-line I am told that due to contractual reasons the on-line broadcasts are only available to users in the UK. I presume that they know that I am not in the UK from my IP address. Does anyone know of a way that I can fool the BBC website into believing that I am using a UK registered IP address? I am not very technically minded so if this can be done I need clear instructions on how to do it.
Is it encouraging that Iraq has won the Asian Cup? I was away over the time of the Asia Cup final and only found out today, while browsing around the BBC sport website, that Iraq won the Asia Cup. Is this encouraging? 1. Because of the obvious problems that we all know about in Iraq and 2. Because another Asian team is emerging out of the continent to contest at the biggest stage of football (in recent years we have seen Japan, South Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia and China develop) However, like many of the countries listed above, will Iraq suffer a downslide, like Saudi Arabia did after France '98, Iran and China in Japan and Korea and South Korea after Germany last year. And is this even more probable after the title winning manager, Jorvan Vieira, stepped down after the victory? (I expect only proper football fans will answer this question properly!)
Euros against innocent civilians? I would like to thankk Kasper, andygurl,MJ, fatto in napoli for their intelligent arguments in the Euro celebration of death of innocent Americans asked by some Man U fan. Living in the US but not being "American" but being a citizen(to vote against Bush), I can speak firsthand what its like. In the US, the media has an overpowering influence on public opinon by emotionalizing events. Then when I tell my friends I got some news source from the BBC(theyre like you actually trust the BBC?) Like before the World Cup, roughly 4 days of coverage on ESPN(major sport channel in the US) discussed racism in European football(citing the Henry fiasco with Spains national team coach).. So most people in the US think Europeans are a bunch of racists. And lets not forget US is not totally innocent.. There was a thing called Hiroshima.. know it all- Im in us for many reasons.. parents immigrated here for the job market. Theres no denying that the US has the most fair job market in the world. Yes Hiroshima quickened the war but it also killed a lot of innocent civilians. Bears or Colts? Does Manning have a chance against Urlacher? Urlacher will have a field day. andygurl.. yea americans are a great people and opportunity for career advancement is great with a high standard of living.. And since youre an Aussie, Id like to thank the country for being such great hosts of the big event! Federer did what he does best.. That is win matches. know it all- about Mexicans.. I think my previous answer kinda said it.. where would most humans rather live? In a poor country or the richest country in the world? Considering how easy it is to cross the border. kasper- yea youre mostly right... Americans are great but sometimes think they are the center of the world. But US definetly is the richest economy and economy in the world with the most effective(not perfect) democracy. at know it all- what mexican is here legally? BTW know it all- my parents werent exactly poor- my dads a doctor. And about health care, andygurl is somewhat right.. theres plenty of kids who get turned away in organ transplant cases. my father and i have seen it.. Its just that it happens to the POOR who dont have health insurance.. And personally I dont think the US is good for poor people in the sense that poor here are no different than elsewhere.. US has a HUGE middle class unlike MOST other countries which makes living easier. know it all- yea dungy losing his son was sad and also the whole manning cant win the big one.. hes a great qb. About the "US hating morons" I dont think they hate the US at all, in fact they love Americans but just hate the US government's policing the world approach.
whats a good football(soccer) web site? not to watch games just just to get the latest news and talk to fans from around the world? i usually go to bbc sport but im looking for a site where people write in and get their views and stuff.i found this one site once but i forget what its called, you would like sign in, it was kinda like a facebook for soccer. does anyone know?
What do those of you who believe that the media are injustice, think of this? I think reading this in 5-10 minutes would be better than listening to the news for a lifteime.Plz don't think I'm a very old person.Just 18.A university student studying English who just cannot sit back and hope. This article has two parts: 1.Cultural and general info and music 2.political info.If you wanna get enlightened and shocked read it from top to bottom. Hi.I'm Iranian and I live in Iran. When I chat with people from other countries, I understand that they have totally wrong ideas about Iran.I just wrote this article to correct you. The first thing they accuse our government of, is that they don't let you be free.Actually, Iranians would be some of the most liberal people in the world (liberal meaning not obeying laws that they don't like).Thousands of millions of strict rules in other countries, don't even exist in Iran. Also, you should understand that what may seem so normal to you, may be a nightmare for us and vise versa. That's why you don't understand a few of Iran's laws.In Iran every single house has a sattelite. Sattelite channels had a serious influence on people, they wear very fashionable clothes.Maybe it's a kind of immitation, but still it's got an unique Iranian style. You'll see lots of beauty qeens on the streets that are just like models advertising fashionable clothes! Most part of their hair is out and they wear a lot of make up, also wearing scarves is a part of our culture.Iran is one of the super-consumers of cosmics (which is bad for our economy)! People do whatever they wish to and some of the things they do, don't fit our culture at all, however it's normal in Iran. You'll be surprised seeing the difference between what you imagined before and how the real Iran is! It's wonderful.Everything's so great if you don't take unemployment, inflation and air pollution into account which I guess are common problems in many other countries. Many things have changed so far.I can't even compare Iran with 5 years ago, let alone comparing it with 30 years ago!!!! After all, nearly 65-70% of Iran's population is considered the new generation (The youth) and they've transformed everything. Some people think women don't have any rights in Iran! Women are overtaking Iran. They're treated very well. They're the winners in most cases: They get into the best universities cos they're so clever. They get the best jobs cos they can do jobs much better than men. They've got rights that have made it difficult for men to marry them, because husbands buy them expensive things and treat them very well, otherwise women will have the right to ask them a great amount of money according to the law which most husbands cannot afford, so they'll be imprisoned. The only thing that women are not allowed to do in Iran is getting into public football stadiums and that's just because in Iran such places are usually full of cheeky guys who would cheek girls. They do anything from taking part in rallies to singing DJ / pop songs.Anything! I've put a sample here.I feel foolish for sitting here explaining ordinary things to you. Another funny thing: Your footage about stoning the women who have committed adultery.Have you ever asked yourselves they relate to how many years ago?Just for your information, those are from Afghanistan which was ruled by those freaks (Taliban). When you think of such things, try to think of the racism in your country too.I find it difficult to make you understand that Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan are SEPERATE COUNTRIES! and that 60% of Iranians are Persian and 30% are Turkish! I find it even more difficult to make you understand that Iran is a normal country like any other countries in the world. There's nothing mysterious about it!(The media are very good at making scary titles: BEHIND THE CLOSED DOORS!!! IRAN UNDERCOVER!!! This would be enough to scare people away! Iranians are much more educated, intelligent and open-minded than what you think!!! I'm sure you don't know that there are lots and lots of Iranian geniouses and scientists that are all under 25.You don't hear about their discoveries and inventions on TV. For instance this 17 year old boy has invented 72 amazing inventions and there are many many KIDS like that. You don't know that Iranian students and sportsmen win gold and silver medals in different compotitions in the world all the time such as robotics, biology, maths, physics, sports, anything! Why don't the media talk about them? They just can't summerise everything in one word "nuclear", although we're proud of it cos having nuclear energy means a country is developed.Did you know that the countries having the highest number of scientists in the world are in this order? 1-India 2-Korea 3-Iran A few months ago Iran uncovered the most effective anti-H.I.V medicine and it was signing treaties with other countries to export it.I digged the news on the internet, but there was no single sign of that. What did I find instead? "President Bush CLAIMS that bomb parts are imported from Iran into Iraq!"(The same old story!) The media are injustice. They put CLAIMS on the headlines, but they never talk about facts! Some interesting facts: Iran is the pionier in medicine and genetics and Iranian surgens have found lots of new methods for treating spinal defects and many other diseases (mainly the treatment for different types of cancer) and the best brain and heart surgens are Iranian surgens. The head of Mars Mission in NASA is Iranian. One of the best designers of sports cars working in Germany is Iranian. Some of the best 3D animators are Iranian.Iran is one of the best countries in counter-engineering.Holds the second place in building dams and holds records in loads of other things! It's one of the top countries in these fields: bio-technology and nono-technology.The 4th highest tower in the world (Milad tower) is in Tehran (which you can visit in the second link).51 top universities out of the 100 top universities in the Mid-East are in Iran and they're among some of the top universities of the world as well. The champion weight-lifter is Iranian. The woman, and a song by one of the pop singers who/which won the nobel peace prize are Iranians and lots of Iranians win nobel prizes specially in medicine field. And as you all know, Iranian girls are famous for being terrific.Persian rug and Persian literature, many Persian poets and scientists that are so famous.Persian culture is now westernised and only a little has survived! According to statistics Tehran is the cheapest capital city in the world for foriegners of course not for us! (Cos our rate is different: one Dollar =about 950 Tomans!) There are many other things. How many pages would you need to describe a country? And also, Iran is an independant country unlike its neighbouring countries. It has nearly all the developed industries and technologies and doesn't need other countries to survive! The list is endless. The news this morning: "Iranian scintists managed to make human teeth to grow again after losing you've lost them using basic cells" I'm gonna intoduce you the international news website of Iran (called press TV) which is establlished recently. It's much better than BBC news and is fully in English, Plz vist it and you'll find out what they're hiding from you! and in the section of "Sic / Tech" you'll always see that Iran discovers news things nearly everyday. The address is: http://www.presstv.ir/news.aspx From now on, the truth will right by your side! Just a link from that website which reads: Iranian scientists have registered more than 4800 inventions during the last Iranian calendar year of 1385 just in one year 4800 inventions! (April 21 2006-April 20, 2007). Read more in: http://www.presstv.ir/sections.aspx?sectionid=3510208 Some charactristics of Iranians would be: Proud, greedy, hard-working for themselve, lazy in doing their duty well!, intelligent, ambitious, not realistic, not so religious (sadly majority of the young generation is not), not punctual, impatient, well-dressed, formal, well-educated, warm and friendly and hospitable. Some people think, Iran's a desert! lol Iran is a modern country with breathtakingly beautiful nature and lots of historic places to visit. Please take a look at the following links to see if Iran looks like what you think or not! (You didn't expect it to be like that.Right?) This is a photo of Tehran: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/79/Tehran-2-1600.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tehran If you like you can visit these too, hundreds of pretty photos from the cities and nature: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Hills_south_west_of_Sanandaj_near_the_village_of_Kilaneh.jpg http://www.pbase.com/k_amj/throughout_iran&page=all http://www.pbase.com/k_amj/throughout_iran&page=2 http://www.pbase.com/k_amj/throughout_iran&page=3 http://www.bigsoccer.com:80/forum/showthread.php?t=199709&page=4 http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=199709&page=3 http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=199709&page=13 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran Some people think music is forbidden in Iran.Did you know that Iranian pop music was chose as the best pop music in France in 2005? I guess not.All Iranian songs are current pop /Club-Dance/Trance/ DJ music.I send them to my American and Canadian chat friends and they all say they're some of the best songs they've ever heard. Here's a sample of the latest hits.(You didn't expect them to be so catchy.Right?) I believe in "Express yourself through music and that music is a universal language". You can just right click on the links below and choose "Save Target As" to download them. They're some of the best songs you've ever heard. It's nothing like what you expect! It's now 2007 and people still think we are uneducated people living in deserts, riding camels and carrying around guns!!!! See how the media are fooling people? None of the things you hear on the media about Iran are true. Let's clarify some political issues as well: Some of the Americans I chatted with, said in the U.S it's said that president Ahmadinejad hates the U.S and Israel and wants to nuke them!! The media are good at putting comments. It's easy to show a video or an image of our president or leader on the T.V screen or on the internet and say he says this, he says that.....I really don't get the point why our politicians defame themselves by talking about things that have got nothing to do with us.For example does verbal defence of Palestinians cause them to have a better life? The thing is that they occasionally make some statements that the media would misuse it agaisnt Iran. For example they pick up some specific phrases of a long speech (without reffering to the main points and reasons for that speech) and put so many bad comments on that.No sane person would take it for granted. First of all, Iranians don't hate anyone. If our government complains about some injustice going on in the world, it's not bad.Is it? (Although what we want them is to not to get us into trouble by talking about things that are none of our concern.) We hate neither Jews nor Americans.I love Americans otherwise why would I talk to them?! How would our guys dream of America, be like them as much as possible and hate it at the same time?! Although ordinary Iranians don't care much about world affairs, I've got to say that for us Israel is not equal with Jews! Israel is a govt.Jews are faithful people! A few of them live here in our neighbourhood and they live just like the rest of Iranians. No difference. And two of Iran's parliment members are Jews. Who says we want to force others to convert to Islam?Have you ever found a Muslem knocking at your door asking you to do so?It's so funny the way you imagine things and make yourselves believe in your own immaginations! Christians and Jews are both God believers and respectful to us.I wonder why the media like putting words in our mouth and raising hatred. In Iran, religion would be the least important thing. It means that where you come from and what your religion is, are not important to us at all.On the contrary, meeting different people would be so interesting for us! I love the Japanese who come here! I wonder Iran is a threat to whom. Which logical rule admits that it's logical to say a country is guilty because we THINK / PREDICT that she's going to do something wrong?!!!! And they repeat the same "nuclear" tosh over and over and brain wash people! News headlines: "We won't allow Iran to gain nuclear weapons"!!! Has Iran ever attacked any countries? No.Has it developed any nukes? No!That's what nuclear agency says.Only Iran's oppositions are pulling Iran's leg and what they say is of no credit. It's just based on political conflicts. What we're doing is legal. What they ask us to do (ignoring our international rights) is illegal and nonsense.Iran is a peaceful country. Why? It's the regional super-power and if she wanted, she could easily invade the countries in our neibourhood just like what Seddam did to our country, but as you see Iran has peaceful relationships with all of them.It could be a good example to some countries that just follow their interests. What is interesting is that the countries which accuse Iran of different things have been, and are still accused of the same things!!! This is a modern and innovative form of philosophy and logic! Some people say he said: Israel should be wiped off the map! But have they told you the rest of his speech and that why he's said this at all?You know that it's a passive sentence. He's never said that IRAN wants to wipe Israel off the map! He wasn't talking about destroying Israel. He was talking about relocating Israel, so that they could live seperate from Palestinians and they could both live in peace. They've only told you this phrase not the whole thing and it's mistranslated intentionally.Iran's always defended itself, but it's not an offensive country. Some say he's said: Holocaust is a myth! again this is a single phrase from among a long speech and there are totally logical reasons for saying so.If 6000000 Jews were killed, that's so terrible, but those 300000 Shiite Moslems killed by Saddam aren't important at all! Over 650000 Iraqi people are killed and it's not important! When Fox News simply says: America and Israel are capable of destroying and killing all Iran's 69000000 population within two weeks, it's OK and no one says they're threatening other countries to nuke them (I saw this with my own eyes on the Fox News website) Millions of people killed in Afghanistan, Hiroshima & Nakazaki and vietnam war are not considered human beings at all! Now I think you'd get the point why he's IRONICALLY said it's a mith. Moreover, don't you believe in freedom of speech/mind? Obviousely, some countries are using Iran as a victim to put the blame (their own faults) on Iran. And which country is better than Iran to be a victim? They've made the whole world believe that Iran isn't a peaceful country and represent false image of Iranians by making insulting movies like "300" . Anyone saying that it was not for political reasons is wrong. I know Americans don't like these either, but what can they do?They're not responsible for controlling what the media say.I hope someday the media would end all this instead of playing a negative role in the world. This part is just for Americans who would still argue over unimportant things: Those of you who say why Iran says "Death to America": 1.America means the U.S govt not the people 2.The new generation don't say such things and if some of them occasionally march in the streets that's because some of the stupid guys enjoy making noise and they mainly go out there to meet their girlfreids/boyfriends! Strange.Isn't it? 3.Such mottos are not just said in Iran and as you know whatever you hear is a response to the U.S govt's terrible actions which has made life for many people hell (You wouldn't deny that attacking countries is a mistake.right?) 5.The U.S gov't helped Seddam to attack Iran and I hope you know which country gave Iraq biological weapons which killed lots of Iranians 6.America hit an Iranian airplane over the Persian Gulf and killed 200 passengers for no reason 7.It's always botherng Iran by sanctions, displaying false image of Iran and Iranians, scares tourists away from Iran and is always harmful to our economy, development and credit 8.It's always despised the Iranians who travel to the U.S at their arrival (even ordinary ones, university students, sportsmen, scientists etc) To those who are upset with American hostages taken for 444 days: 1.Firstly, It's related to so many years ago and almost a part of history and don't forget that when there's a revolution, there'd be cheos and people may do things that they should not, moreover they're all alive and healthy.Aren't they? 2.The U.S has arrested Iranian diplomats in Iraq and keeps denying that they're diplomats. Now you decide who has the right to be upset with whom. It's exceeded the level of tit for tat. Isn't it better for both countries to forget about the past conflicts and to have peaceful relations? The two govts are like 10 year old children playing a game by harsh rhetoric. They don't care about hurting people's feeling. They just try to show that the people are enemies of each other to achieve their own goals. We as the people of these countries MUST NOT have any conflics. You know something? All govts are hateful.I just said the above things because it sounds unfair when some Americans talk about 444 hostage taking and I keep being silent.I hope you agree on this one! Now, what do you think?I can't wait to see both nations in peace. It'd be marvelous! Would this happen in less than 2 years? You know what I mean! Remember that: The sea is deeper. You don't always have to see the surface of it. Plz whenever you have time, find and read an article about "ethnocentrism".Knowing the meaning of this term is not enough. After reading about it, you'll feel a noticable positive change in your attitude towards different people! Do sattelite recievers/decoders in another continent work in the UK? The reason I ask is that in some countries you can pay about £5 a month for channels such as BBC, CNN, HBO< Star sports and movies, ESPN (for football) and more. I was wondering if I subscribed and paid overseas and brought the reciever here etc would it work, or would the signals be out of reach. Any help would be appreciated. PS I know I am being cheap,
have you seen the finalists for bbc sports personality of the year 2006....not a single footballer on there ? apparently the finalists are as folllows: jenson button (f1), joe calzaghe (boxing), darren clarke (golf), nicole cooke (cycling), ricky hatton (boxing), andy murray (tennis), monty panesar (cricket), zara phillips (equestrian), phil taylor (darts) and beth tweddle (gymnastics). what do you make of this selection? should a footballer be nominated for an award? if so, who would you give it to and why, in relation to their performances on the pitch? if not, why not? are footballers overrated in comparison to athletes of other sports? are you pleased that not a single football player is on the shortlist? who or what is to blame for the demise in standards during and within the game, with events occuring on and off the pitch? and even as important, as football is shunned from the limelight in this instance of the sports personality of the year awards ceremony, do you consider it as more or less significant in your eyes? i still enjoy the game, but i believe it has lost its way recently
Does anyone know the Opening theme Tune??? I know its casting your minds back a fair distance, well, 1989-1992 to be exact, and whats more, only people who like this sport, who lived in the Granada/Yorkshire/North-East regions of England at the time will know the programme I'm going on about. Do you remember a Saturday Afternoon ITV Granada Programme called "RUGBY LEAGUE LIVE"??? It only ran for 3 years, (from 1989 until 1992). It was hosted by current "You're on Sky Sports" presenter Rob McCaffery, and the Live match commentator was future BBC & ITV Football Commentator Clive Tyldesley. If you do remember that much, you're doing very well, Do you also remember the Opening Theme Tune??? It was a rock song, with a great guitar riff All I want to know is :- What is the song title & if possible, what is the name of the Artist/Band who recorded it??? If you can tell me that, I will be forever in your debt Many, many Thanks!!!
bbc sports personality ,how did she win it? i know ,football ,cricket & rugby didnt deserve anything but i would have put her behind others , what about calzhage, hatton, i think she got it just because she is a royal if prince charles was the tiddlywink champion he would probably win it.
Should we forget about football in Britain? Yes I know I'm just a silly woman who should be making beds and washing up but at least I don't act like this http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/7405259.stm What a load of animals. We might have invented the game in Britain, but I think it's about time we dropped it as a bad idea and concentrated on a sport that isn't just a joke. Not only are the fans idiots, but the players are a joke with them caring more about their hair and being celebs than sports people. Even their thick tarty chav girlfriends have taken over the game. Beckham was too tired to last the whole time on the pitch because his wife cared more about having celeb parties so she could get her picture in magazines. Let's face it with the types we have now they're never going to win a world cup again. I remember when we had a decent England captain in Shearer who took the game seriously, and his wife didn't even try use him to sell a story to a magazine every week or try to take over the world cup. My granddad used to be a footballer but the way they act nowadays I'm too embarrassed to tell people I know. He can't believe how much they get paid now too.
Why do British people think Basketball is a girl`s sport and that basketball is only popular in America? Just to let you know,Im Greek, not American. British people keep saying that basketball is for sissies and that it is only popular in the U.S.A.But if that was true, then why is basketball the second most popular sport in the world? Why is it popular in countries where football(soccer) is the most popular sport?Basketball is definitely a man`s sport, and it`s definitely beloved by billions of men around the World!(Basketball even became as equally popular as football(soccer) in China!) Why do British people keep on saying its for sissies and that it`s only popular in American despite the fact that they don`t even know anything about the sport except from the stupid lies they see and hear from the BBC?Basketball is the second most popular sport in the world! By the way I`m Greek not American.Basketball is the second most popular sport in Greece.

VIZ Letters? Hats off to the England cricketers for their achievements in the Ashes this summer, which rightly earned Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff BBC Sports personality of the Year. Winning a two-team tournament against a nation with a much smaller population once in every ten attempts, then never shutting up about it makes me proud to be British. Ben Hunt The government tells us that we are eating too many pies and dying of heart disease, then in the next breath they're telling us we are living too long and there'll be no more pension money left for us. Colin Hill I am married to a Taiwanese lady, and people often ask me if she was a mail-order bride. I find this very insensitive. The Royal Mail lose around 2 million letters and parcels each year, and to suggest that I would trust the delivery of my wife to them is insulting in the extreme. She was sent by DHL next day delivery. L Palmer, London The record companies would have us believe that the money made by CD pirates goes to fund the drug industry. But the money rock stars make from legal record sales ends up in exactly the same place. When they stop breaking the law, so will I. P Boddington, Ringway Peter Andre might look smug in all his wedding pictures, but I'd just like to remind him that, as a Playboy reader, I have seen his wife's m!nge. He hasn't seen my wife's, so who's had the last laugh? P, Leeds On holiday a few years back, I took part in a quiz and managed to reach the final only to lose out after what I consider to this day, to be a correct answer. The question asked 'What 'C' would you associate Jeremy Clarkson with?' to which I confidently replied '<unt'. Not only was I told the answer was incorrect, but I was asked by the holiday rep to leave the premises immediately! Has anyone else experienced such appalling treatment whilst holidaying with one's family? Noel, Leeds My friend's mum recently pointed out that I have the same ironing board cover as her. And i thought we had to get to the Cup Final before we were on telly.? MEDIA RELEASE The Scottish Football League and BBC ALBA today announced a package of three live televised First Division games over the next few months. The televised games will take place on Sundays with kick-off times at 3.15 p.m. An announcement regarding the end of season Play-Off matches will be made in due course. The agreement represents another step forward for the Scottish Football League, securing live broadcast of First Division matches, and reflects BBC ALBA’s commitment to televise a range of sports. BBC ALBA is a partnership between the BBC and MG ALBA, the Gaelic Media Service. David Longmuir, chief executive of the SFL, said: “MG ALBA has been an excellent broadcast partner since it became sponsor of The Challenge Cup last year. “I am delighted that the new TV channel recognises the excitement, passion and community values that the Scottish Football League can offer, and I look forward to developing this relationship in the months ahead.” Alan Esslemont, head of content for BBC ALBA, said: “We are very pleased to be able to offer excellent live SFL fixtures to viewers. These games will enhance our comprehensive sports package which already includes the ‘as-live’ televising of SPL matches on Saturday nights.” The First Division games selected for Sunday live coverage are as follows: Sunday, 22nd February Airdrie United v. Does anyone know how to watch live streaming world cup football if you are outside the UK? BBC verifys your IP address and if not in the UK it does not let you watch streaming sports from there website. I am in the UK but at work and so my server is based in France and so the internet thinks I am in France due to my ip address and so wont let me watch sports! You can get live soccer from the sports section of the bbc website : http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2006/default.stm Also there is an american version on espn I tried but as I have a french IP address is still wouldnt work.
Who else is annoyed that................................? Setanta Sports are getting all the good matches and charging money, etc. They have like 6 Man Utd matches over the busy period. Even more worse is that they have bought the FA Cup rights (shared with ITV) and England Internationals from BBC from August '08. They are taking away the class football that you could see on BBC for free. BBC will lose MOTD and have to show Championship football instead. I suppose i can go on but i dont want to. For more info go to www.wikipedia.com and search "ITV Sport", "BBC Sport" and "Setanta Sport" and scroll down. Who else is Anti-Setanta? I mean like Setanta a year ago were only showing 1 match a week. One 3pm Kick-off. A year later they have like 5 TV channels all basically PPV, getting like 3 PL matches a week, and others. Man Utd arent on "normal" TV once over the XMas period. Setanta have 5 matches.
NFL Team in London in 10 to 12 years? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_sports/american_football/7856008.stm So what do you guys think of this? Will it be an expansion team or would a franchise move over there? Which Conference would they play in? Wouldn't their home games be a huge advantage for them and their away games be a huge advantage for whoever they were playing? I think this is a really exciting prospect. What do you think? I don't think teams would survive in Paris or Amsterdam, Germany has a huge fanbase, just because of the former US bases over there, but I don't think the NFL wants to repeat the mistakes of NFL Europe. I think they will choose select foreign cities and integrate them completely into the league by placing each in a different division. If you don't understand the question and you need more detail, read the article in the link. It explains that they have logistically tested London, Mexico City and Toronto to be sure teams can travel there and play. Hey Indyfan, the NFL needs expansion to survive and become a world sport. Would you rather have an enthusiastic fan base learning the sport and growing with the franchise or a know-it all cynical fanbase?
Another Football Player Has Died? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/motherwell/7164150.stm Motherwell captain Phil O'Donnell has died after collapsing towards the end of his side's Scottish Premier League game against Dundee United. The 35-year-old midfielder fell to the ground just as he was about to be replaced with Marc Fitzpatrick near the end of Motherwell's 5-3 victory. O'Donnell was treated for around five minutes on the field before being taken to a waiting ambulance. But his death was later confirmed by Well chairman Bill Dickie. im sure its nothing drug related, its quite common over the years this sort of tragedy and suggests that theses sports men are being pushed to the limit. My thoughts are with his family
I am not very technically minded so if this can be done I need clear instructions on how to do it.

hay has any one asked the BBC why we have to pay this fee? i was looking at the BBC in spain and was told that thay donot pay a licence fee, we as a nation subsedise all of the world with our TV Licence. we shouls askee for a rebate as we are beeing sharfted yet again, i for one will be asking for a rebate also i will be withholding my licence fee untill this is sorted out, also why should i as many others, pay for the constant repeats from the BBC?, I also i dont like sports so why was a good film be shelved for the ###### football? last night on /Wed 17/1/07, can some one please tell this goverment that enough is enough we are taxed to the hilt already, we pay 51% of our wages to this goverment , this is called tax plus ni stamps, ,we only if we are lucky only have 2% pay rise a year, these price rises that thay allow are beond the wage incresses that most of us get,hay this pay rise will not get me out of the hole i am now in as the Halifax has just put up my house payments. talk about being s### on from a hight
where was cricket invented? A. France b. Belgium c. England? England is not first to play cricket. I have read BBC sport article which says cricket was invented in France but just two days back news paper of my country printed it was invented in Belgium.I'm from Nepal. If my country goes in top 10 ranking like all sub-continent. Nepal will be cricket mad country. Now cricket is slowly taking over football to become no.1 sport in my country..cricket is now second place in my country.
So Michael Vick isnt the only sad low life footbal player into dog fighting? Im irish and here we play gaelic football and its the biggest sport here although it is completly amatuer(although the players do get heavily rewarded in their jobs if they are high profile county players). The BBC did an undercover special on dog fighting in Northern Ireland last night and it turned out that one of the top players(Ger Cavlan) from one of the countries top four football teams(tyrone) was the ringleader of a huge cross Europe dog fighting ring. They showed one of the fights and anyone here who thinks what vick, or cavlan for that matter did, is no big deal really should watch it to see the sick brutality of those fights and the types of lo lifes that are involved in organising it. It was sick with blood everywhere and tearing skin and crunching bones and a fight between two dogs that went on 45minutes. Seriously what the f*ck is wrong with those guys? Are they that inadequate that they have to watch two dumb animals tear each other apart to get their kicks? Philly soul - idont mean to offend you but dogs are undoubtedly dumb animals. They are unable to use reason or logic and therefore are dumb in relative terms. If they werent dumb they would sit down, have a cup of tea and decide fighting is a stupid thing to do and become friends instead. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/panorama/6962563.stm
